Can You See What Is Going On?

 I hope you guys can see where we’re going as a country? Or am I the only observant one? 

Life is showing everybody one or two. As for me, I’m on ten or twelve. I closed my eyes for two seconds and we were already in November. Anyways, happy new year everyone. Before you know it, we are in April, 2024.

I know everyone is trying to make sense of life as it is but I need some of you to show me how you’re doing it.

Which way? What’s the update? Most importantly, where are you seeing money?

It’s easy for people to say “Calm down, you’re still young” But in today’s world, if you calm down, you will be left behind.

“Take it easy, your life is just starting” Aunty Jumoke, I hope you know that if I take it easy, the price of everything I want to buy right now would’ve been doubled by Friday. I hope you know?

“Be kind to yourself” Please dears, how would I be kind to myself when I’m broke and unemployed? 

DO YOU GUYS UNDERSTAND WHAT I’M TRYING TO SAY???

Just yesterday, I was going through the 2023 PiggyVest report on our saving and spending habits as a country. To be honest, I wasn’t even surprised when the report said that only 4% of Gen Z had emergency savings, compared to the 27% of Boomers. Just look at that margin. Lol.

How will we save for the future when it is our savings that are saving us in the present? Every day is a rainy day. Nothing is actually funny. 

Our parents are getting older right in our faces and there’s nothing anybody can do to slow that down. Our younger siblings are causally billing us on a regular basis - Lately I realized that I don’t even spend that amount of money on my own self!

Friends are leaving the country every day, the ones that are left with you are so busy trying to figure out their own lives too that we hardly see or talk anymore - nobody wants to be left behind. 
You’re losing yourself to pressure, stress and depression. You can’t talk to your parents because there’s no way they’ll ever understand. You can’t talk to your friends because you might even see that their own issues are worse than yours if you table them. 
Your project supervisor wants to take your life and all your money. He has canceled your chapter 2 and 3 for you to go and rewrite them.

DO YOU GUYS SEE WHERE I AM GOING WITH THIS?

I need answers. I want to know how you are coping. I want to know how you’re surviving. I want to know what keeps you up and what helps you sleep. I want to know how you’re doing. I honestly need answers so I don’t feel like I’m alone in this.

2024: The One Where I Chose Peace (And Better Glasses) - Life, Love, Lessons.

  Hey, It has been quite some time, hasn't it? I know I've been MIA for a good chunk of this year. Defended my final year project (which I got a big, fat A on btw), Graduation (this barbie is a graduate o, finally! Once again, Asuu is mad), and working multiple jobs... it's been A LOT. But hey, we're here, and looking forward to what's next.  Now, let's get into the good stuff.  This year really was something, to say the least. Starting off heavy, I severed ties with something that had been draining for a long while, which eventually became too cancerous. The second something starts feeling deep or serious, you lace up your imaginary running shoes and vanish. And I get it. Life has dealt you heartbreaks, disappointments, betrayals, and random incidents that left dents on you. So now you guard yourself like a bouncer - nobody gets in no matter who they are. You know what nobody really talks about? The kind of depression that lets you function. The kind where you're showing up. You're getting dressed, taking pictures and posting highlights. You're laughing at jokes and being the friend people actually want around. You're being a good daughter, a good sister, a good partner, a good colleague. You're going to the gym and doing your skincare routine like clockwork. You're checking every box society says you're supposed to check.
